PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Kasey Abbott

Let’s do lunch at the Westward Ho on Wednesday December 5.

Lunch buffet will be served starting at 11:30 AM, with the program running from 12 to 1 PM.  We have a very interesting program from Dr. Norman Bliss, Principal Scientist at EROS:

Climate Change as the Defining Issue of our Economic and Social Futures

Concerns about climate change are impacting ASHRAE both at a society and local level:

·        ASHRAE recently launched a new magazine dedicated to high-performing buildings.

·        ASHRAE’s mission statement now reads, “To advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigerating to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world”.

·        SD Public Utilities Commission requested, and the BOG accepted, that the SD Chapter of ASHRAE become a supporter of their Energy Smart Program.

·        The SD Chapter of ASHRAE is on record of supporting potential efforts to adopt an energy code for the state of South Dakota.

I urge all of you to attend the meeting as it is a great opportunity to learn more about climate change, an issue that is having a major impact on our industry, and more importantly, in my opinion, will be the defining issue of our economic and social future.

I would like to take a moment to recognize two individuals.  Congratulations to Dan Woldt who received our South Dakota Chapter’s “Lifetime Achievement” award.  Dan has been a great supporter of ASHRAE and probably has attended more ASHRAE CRCs than anyone else in the chapter!  I would also like to thank Bill Coad for helping us raise about $1000 for ASHRAE research.  Bill’s technical seminar and his program talk can be accessed at: http://www.sdashrae.org/links.htm

One last reminder to please RSVP for the December 5th lunch meeting to jill.beatty@ddccontrol.com by Friday.  Or call her at 575.3739 if that is more convenient.
